DETAILS

The Nikon FM is a mid-range 35mm film SLR camera developed in the late 1970's to replace the Nikkormat FT3.  It's a camera built for amateurs or serious enthusiasts, that enjoys a reputation of great construction with superb reliability thanks in part to a 100% mechanical shutter.

The FM utilizes the Nikon F-mount and can mount just about every lens ever created by Nikon. The FM has a stainless steel Nikon F-mount that accepts that even accepts non-Ai lenses; unlike most Nikon bodies made later on, the FM's metering 'aperture follow tab' can be flipped back out of the way so non-AI F-mount lenses can be mounted without causing damage (stopped down metering via depth of field preview lever is required).

The fully mechanical focal plane can fire from 1 to 1/1000 second or bulb.  The flash syncs at up to 1/125s and the body has a hot shoe.  Fully mechanical wheels and levers allow total control of the body.  A small lever can be triggered for multi-exposures.  ASA is selectable on the Nikon FM from 12 to 3200.&nsbp; Film advance and rewind are also fully mechanical, though Nikon's MD-11 and MD-12 motor drives can be used with this body.  The metering is 60/40 center-weighted.  The Nikon FM uses easy to read LED's for exposure indication and battery checks.  The standard focusing screen gives you a choice of three focusing aids: a central split-image rangefinder spot, an annular micro-prism grid and a fine matte outfield.
