The Series E lenses were Nikon's answer to a specific problem: build F-mount glass that photographers on tighter budgets could actually afford, without abandoning the mount's mechanical standards. This 135mm f/2.8 carries full AI-S indexing, which means it communicates properly with film bodies that support AIS metering and with modern Nikon DSLRs that can work with AI-S glass in stop-down or manual exposure modes. At 135mm and f/2.8, the working distance suits portrait and event work where you want separation from your subject without crowding them.
